Reception & Care Centers

Emergency Management will open a Reception and Care Center (RCC) outside the affected area. Officials will direct evacuees to the RCC through radio and television instructions.

At the RCC, a radiological monitoring station will be established by the Arizona Department of Health Services to monitor evacuees and their household pets. As individuals are managed through the RCC Maricopa County Department of Public Health will provide potassium iodide (KI) tablets to anyone who may have been exposed to any radioactive iodine. Most evacuees will be individuals that left their home because it was in an evacuation zone and will not be able to return their homes, therefore sheltering services will be setup by the American Red Cross for any evacuees that may need it.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and the Arizona Humane Society will assist with temporary, climate controlled, sheltering of pets when individuals process the RCC. After processing pet owners and pets will be reunited and can depart.
