In time for Memorial Day weekend travel, the Maricopa Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has reopened the northbound lanes of Gilbert Road between Thomas Road and State Route 87. The re-opened crossing allows for two lanes in each direction.
The northbound low-flow crossing lanes of Gilbert Road were closed earlier this year as a result of water flow in the Salt River that damaged the roadway. MCDOT maintained two-way traffic on the existing Gilbert Road bridge while the damage was repaired.
