Phoenix - The County Administration Building at 301 West Jefferson Street will remain closed for a second day on Tuesday, July 2 in the aftermath of an electrical fire that caused power outages to several buildings in the downtown core.  All other county buildings in downtown Phoenix will be open and available to the public.

According to an APS update Monday afternoon, there is a plan to restore power to the administration building within 48 hours, meaning the building might not have power until Wednesday afternoon.

The administration building houses the Treasurer's Office; Assessor's Office; much of the County Attorney's Office; Board of Supervisors; and executive leadership.

With the 301 building unavailable, County leaders are making alternate plans for in-demand services.  The public can visit:

  • The Assessor's Office at: Santa Fe Freight Depot building at 334 S. 5th Ave.
  • Superior Court will be open for business at its normal location (201 W. Jefferson St.)

Employees who work in the administration building will work in nearby county buildings depending on their function, or in some cases, from home.

According to APS, the fire started on Sunday night while APS workers were performing maintenance near 1st Avenue and Washington Street.  One APS worker was killed and another was injured.

Power outages and road closures downtown led to the closure of several county buildings on Monday, including the administration building, Downtown Justice Center, and Superior Court.

Maricopa County will continue to monitor the situation to determine when buildings can safely reopen for business.  Follow Maricopa County on Twitter for
